The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Background

Mr Nguyen Thanh Binh holds a BSc in Agronomy in 2000 from the Faculty of Agriculture, Can Tho University, Vietnam. After his graduation he worked for the Mekong Delta Development Research Institute, Can Tho University. As a researcher, he mainly focuses on farming systems, agricultural extension and rural development in the Mekong Delta. From 2006 until 2008 he joined an international master programme in Rural Development which is a joint academic degree from Ghent University (Belgium), Agrocampus Rennes (France), Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), and University of Cordoba (Spain). Back in Vietnam in July 2008, Mr Binh continued his job at the Mekong Delta Development Research Institute until he started to work for the WISDOM project in March 2009. Currently he is conducting his PhD research on vulnerability assessment of different socio-economic groups to salinity intrusion in the Tra Vinh province of the Vietnamese Mekong Delta.
