United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Background

Famil Mammadov, an Azerbaijan national, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Informatics and Management with a special focus on economics from the Azerbaijan State Economics University in Baku. At present he is pursuing an MBA degree that specializes on NGO Management at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Germany concentrating on International Economics, Culture & Politics, Intercultural Communication, and HRM and Leadership.

Prior to joining UNU he worked as a Stock Manager Assistant for the Sabah Group in Baku where he was responsible for industry research and development of partnership relations with international companies. During 2009 he worked as a trainer for the Academy of Perspective of the Wroclaw University of Economics in Poland leading workshops on different business administration, human resources, cultural education and social sciences topics to more than 17 schools. In 2008 Famil held a position as Finance & Administrative Officer with the NGO ‘Save the Children International’ in Baku.

He has been carrying out different types of voluntary work, for instance, in 2009 was appointed Azerbaijan Coordinator for the COJEP International NGO in Baku creating partnerships with regional governmental institutions and organizations and represents the organization in the Caucasus region. In addition, he is an active member of many international youth organizations and participated as a scholarship holder in various international youth meetings, conferences and trainings in the world.
