The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Lecture: World Water Day on water cooperation

We cordially invite you to the next Water Lecture on Thursday, 21 March 2013 on the topic of "World Water Day on Water Cooperation: Challenges and opportunities". A panel consisting of high-level experts from government and UN agencies will discuss various forms of water cooperation as well as potential challenges and opportunities of water cooperation at different levels and settings.

World Water Day is held annually on March 22 to emphasize the relevance of fresh water and to promote the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of water. This year's focus is on "international water cooperation".

At this Water Lecture, a panel consisting of high-level experts from government and UN agencies will discuss various forms of water cooperation as well as potential challenges and opportunities of water cooperation at different levels and settings. The discussion will focus on the impacts of water cooperation on capacity development and knowledge exchange.
