United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Background

Tuan Vo Van studied Economics at Can Tho University, Vietnam, and also Rural Development with a specialization in “Livelihoods and natural Resource Management”, organized by the Swedish University of Agricultural Science. His main foci were on micro-finance, livelihoods and vulnerability assessment. Tuan is working as a researcher at the Department of Socio-Economics and Policy, Mekong Delta Development Research Institute, Can Tho University, Vietnam.

Working Area at UNU-EHS

Tuan is PhD researcher at UNU-EHS and at the University of Bonn. He is working on the German-Vietnamese WISDOM project (Water Related Information Management System for the Mekong Delta). His PhD thesis title is “Vulnerability Assessment to Floods in the Mekong Delta – The Case Study of Dong Thap Province” .
