United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Background

Yalin Wang was born in Hebei, China. He holds a Bachelor´s degree in World History from the School of History and Culture of Lanzhou University. During his study programme he focused on history of religions and regional history concentrating on North America, Europe and East Asia. He wrote his thesis on “An Analytical Outlook of the Jewish History”.

During his study, he worked as a freelance interpreter and assistant for a British author contributing to a travel book that provides a snapshot overview on China’s regions, history and culture. Hence, he gained first-hand experience on event planning, interacting with different constituents, and conducting interviews with high-level experts as well as individuals. Following this, he moved to Germany in 2007. After undertaking one year intensive training on German language and its culture, he started working for UNU Bonn in June 2008 when he entered into the international internship programme of UNU-ViE before taking up the post as a Programme Assistant to the IDEAS section.

Lin has successfully enrolled in the postgraduate programme of Master of Business Administration in NGO Management at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.

Working area at UNU-EHS

Yalin Wang supports the Executive Office of UNU-EHS and UNU-ViE as a Programme Assistant. At the same time, he works for the UNU-ViE IDEAS section. His field of work at UNU is strongly related to institutional development and strategic planning.
