The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

UNU-EHS PhD block course

The UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) in Bonn organises within the framework of the joint UNU-EHS and University of Bonn, Center for Development Research (ZEF) an interdisciplinary block course for all Ph.D. candidates starting their studies. The course entitled “The Role of Vulnerability in (Disaster) Risk Management" focuses mainly on water-related hazards (floods, tsunamis, storm surges), vulnerabilities and associated risks and takes place from 26 -31 March 2007 in Bonn/ Germany at ZEF.

Please not that positions will be filled on a first-apply-first accepted basis. Travel expenses, local transportation, hotel accommodation, meals and daily subsistence will not be borne by UNU-EHS.
