IHDP becomes an integral part of UNU
We would like to announce that effective 1 January 2007, the Secretariat of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP), Bonn, is being hosted by the UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) as a new project, having become an integral part of our organisation.
The International Human Dimensions Programme is an international, interdisciplinary science programme dedicated to promoting, catalyzing and coordinating key research on the human and social dimensions of global environmental change. IHDP takes a social, behavioural and economic science perspective and works at the interface between science and policy making processes.
After having been hosted by the University of Bonn for about 10 years, actively engaging with the local scientific and environmental community in various events including public lectures, workshops and large international conferences, the IHDP Secretariat has now become a joint programme of the United Nations University (UNU), the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). The official designation of the new UNU-EHS project is UNU-IHDP. In keeping with its altered affiliation, UNU-IHDP has recently consummated the last step in the teaming process by moving to its new offices located on the 16th floor of the UN Campus “Langer Eugen”.
Celebration of the inauguration of IHDP will take place on the 16 April 2007 at Langer Eugen. Part of the celebration will be a symposium discussing the "Future Perspectives of Human Dimensions Research".
