Marion Damm


BACKGROUND
Marion has obtained her Diploma (M.A.) degree in Physical Geography from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany and the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. Her area of expertise is in GIS and disaster risk research.

WORKING AREA AT UNU-EHS
She is a PhD Researcher at UNU-EHS and at University of Bonn, Germany. Her PhD research focuses on the assessment of social-ecological vulnerability to the consequences of flooding in Germany. She analyzes environmental, economic and social impacts of flooding with regard to environmental services. By applying different statistical techniques and the use of GIS she aims at creating a composite vulnerability index which will facilitate the detection of highly vulnerable regions along the Elbe River. She is working with the DISFLOOD (Disaster Information System for Large-Scale Flood Events) project which is a cooperation between the GFZ Potsdam, DLR and UNU-EHS.
