UNU-EHS :: Philine Oft
BACKGROUND
Philine obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science, International Development Studies, Spanish and Philosophy) degree from McGill University in Montreal and a Master of Arts (Local and Regional Economic Development) degree from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague. She spent two years in Peru working as a Junior Professional in Disaster Risk Management for the Sustainable Rural Development Program of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).
WORKING AREA AT UNU-EHS
She is a PhD Researcher at the Department of Geography of the University of Bonn and at the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS). Her PhD research focuses on the possibilities for micro-finance tools to complement local farmers’ coping strategies to enhance their resilience against floods and droughts caused by ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation) in Northern Peru. Philine also works a Research Assistant for the Risk Management Section, responsible for the conceptual design and organization of the Urban Training Program in Latin America.
