United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Susanne Krings

BACKGROUND

Susanne Krings studied geography and English language and literature studies at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn (Germany) and the University College Cork (Ireland) with a special focus on social geography. Before joining UNU-EHS in 2007 she was working as a research assistant in the Geography Department of the University of Bonn.

WORKING AREA AT UNU-EHS

Susanne is currently involved in the ‘Vulnerability to Floods’ project issued by the German Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance as a research associate. In this project she is working on a method to allow municipalities to assess the vulnerability of electricity and water supply systems towards floods. Her primary research interests are in the field of security studies and critical infrastructures.
