Graduated in Hydraulic Engineering at Can Tho University, Viet Nam, and then from The Katholic University of Leuven, Belgium, with a Master degree in Water Resources Engineering, Toan works as a lecturer in Can Tho University, Viet Nam. He also focuses his study on the topics involving water resources, especially on water quality. He has experience in monitoring and assessing water quality of water bodies contaminated by organic pollution sources via physiochemical parameters and bio-indicator (i.e. benthic macro invertebrates).

Working Area at UNU-EHS

As a staff member of UNU-EHS, Toan is a member of the WISDOM (Water-related Information System for the Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta) project. His research focuses on monitoring usage and management of pesticides of the farmers in the Lower Mekong Delta, Viet Nam. This section is also a topic of his PhD course on the basic of cooperation between United Nations University and Bonn University. The section is including three main objectives. The first one is monitoring usage and management of pesticides of the local farmers. The second one is monitoring residue concentration of recently common used pesticide compounds in surface water at two study areas in the Lower Mekong Delta. The third one is proposing mitigation measures of pesticide concentration in the surface water. On the other hand, he also works closely with another partner of the WISDOM project who is establishing modeling of pesticide fate. In the field work stage, several papers of the study results in cooperating with other partners are shown in this website.
