United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

29 January 2008 - UNU-EHS Funding Secured for Next 3 Years

BMBF and MIWFT Grant Financial Support

On January 30, 2008 the funding agreement for UNU-EHS has been renewed at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The BMBF grants annually the sum of 500,000 €.

The agreement has been signed by both parties represented by Prof. Konrad Osterwalder, the Rector of United Nations University and Under-Secretary General at the United Nations; and Prof. Frieder Meyer- Krahmer, State Secretary at BMBF. This sum is part of the core funding of UNU-EHS granted by the BMBF and the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MIWFT) in equal parts. The funding by MIWFT has been also already agreed upon.
