The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Policy Dialogue on Environmentally Induced Migration Held in Brussels

The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) invited a small group of European policymakers and experts for an open discussion on the topic of environmentally induced migration at the European Parliament in Brussels on Friday, 4 July 2008.

The policy dialogue highlighted current field research knowledge from the EACH-FOR (Environmental Change and Forced Migration Scenarios) project and emerging European policy discussions about environment, climate change and migration. These new insights were discussed by experts in this topic including Dr. Hassan Boussetta (CEDEM), Prof. Han Entzinger (Erasmus University Rotterdam and EACH-FOR project), Dr. Philippe Boncour (International Organization for Migration), Prof. Roger Zetter (Refugees Studies Centre, University of Oxford), Prof. Janos Bogardi (UNU-ViE) and Angela Liberatore (European Commission) in order to highlight policy implications.
