The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Background

Nevelina Pachova holds a Master’s degree in International Development with a focus on environmental economics from the International University of Japan. Prior to joining UNU-EHS, Nevelina worked as a Programme Associate at the UNU Environment and Sustainable Development Programme in Tokyo, where she supported the development and implementation of research and development projects in the fields of land, forest and international water management.

Working Area at UNU-EHS

At UNU-EHS, Nevelina is responsible for facilitating the implementation of the Innovative Land Use and Management Sub-Programme of the Vice-Rectorate. In particular, she is closely involved in the implementation of a GEF/UNEP Project on Sustainable Land Management in the Pamir-Alai Mountains in Central Asia (PALM), which is executed by UNU-ViE, as well as in the initiation and development of other initiatives on innovative and sustainable resource use and management situated at the science-policy interface.
