United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Warm Farewell to Dr. Juan Carlos Villagrán de León from all UNU Bonn Staffs

Dr. Juan Carlos Villagrán de León, head of the risk management section at UNU-EHS, moves on to his new position as Programme Officer in charge of capacity building and outreach activities within the recently established UN-SPIDER program in Vienna, Austria, which is conducted by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, UN-OOSA.

Dr.Villagrán has been a well respected colleague who will be missed by the UNU Bonn staffs and friends who have enjoyed the pleasure of working with him for four and a half years. His colleagues are wishing him the very best for his future!

The UN-SPIDER programme focuses on prompting access to and use of space-based information to support disaster risk management and emergency response activities.
