United Nations University

The United Nations University (UNU) is the academic arm of the United Nations (UN). It bridges the academic world and the UN system. Its goal is to develop sustainable solutions for current and future problems of humankind in all aspects of life. Through a problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approach it aims at applied research and education on a global scale. UNU was founded in 1973 and is an autonomous organ of the UN General Assembly. The University comprises headquarters Tokyo, Japan, and more than a dozen Institutes and Programmes worldwide.

Background

Huong obtained a Bachelor degree of Agricultural Science from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and a Master degree of Science from the faculty of agriculture, Bonn University. Her study focused on crop production and plant diseases. Prior to her Master study she has worked as Customer Service Executive in the Department of Crop Protection, BASF Singapore Pte. Ltd., for three years.

Working Area at UNU-EHS

Huong is an Associated Academic Officer of the Environmental Vulnerability and Ecosystem Services Section at UNU-EHS working in the WISDOM (Water-related Information System for the Sustainable Development of the Mekong Delta) project. Her research focuses on pest and disease monitoring and mitigation measures. Additionally, Huong is a PhD candidate in the Institute of Crop Science and Resource Conservation (INRES), Agriculture faculty, University of Bonn. The topic of her PhD research is biological control of the rice root-knot nematode Meloidogyne graminicola.
