Once a year, the two organisations will jointly organise and stage a “Dag Hammarskjöld Lecture”. The series commemorates Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations, who died in a plane crash in 1961. Hammarskjöld was a distinguished professor whose academic, international civil service and policy-relevant achievements are to be honoured and commemorated with the newly established discussion events.

Prof. Bogardi, one of the founders of UNU in Bonn, will retire in the second half of 2009. He will talk about “Sustainability and Vulnerability: Our Abilities to Confuse Ourselves”.

UNU and UNICLUB Bonn both have the mandate to promote and enhance scientific communication to find solutions for the growing challenges that influence people’s lives around the world today.
