Cross-boundary Early Warning in Europe - Discussions at UN Campus on 5 February 2007

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research in cooperation with DKKV and UNU-EHS organises the discussion on

Cross-boundary Early Warning in Europe February 5, 2007 UN Campus, Hermann-Ehlers-Str. 10, 53113 Bonn

The discussion is a side event in the context of the 3rd Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami Early Warning and Mitigation System in the North-eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Connected Seas (ICG/NEAMTWS-III ), which will take place two days later at the same venue. The NEAMTWS-III is a continued effort of the international community to establish and improve multilateral cooperation in the context of tsunami early warning. This side event builds on this crossboundary early warning in Europe in the context of tsunami and coastal hazards and extends it to other hazards as well. The discussions will cover the broad topic of cross-boundary collaborations in early warning for floods, earthquakes, storms, and coastal hazards in Europe and shall lead to the identification of the most pressing needs in the near future. The discussions will be enriched by a limited number of presentations (10 min. each). The participants will represent the scientific, policy, and operational communities that have a stake in early warning. Following the outcomes of the discussions a process will be initiated gearing towards a visible input to the Sustainable Neighbourhood – from Lisbon to Leipzig through Research (L2L) „A conference on research for sustainable development in Europe” in May 2007 during the German EU Presidency. Applications for presentations are very welcome. Please provide in the application your suggestion (title and short description). Confirmation of your participation is necessary.
